Dutch Mega CO2 Capture Project L10CCS Moves to FEED Phase

Last Updated on 25th June 2024

The Dutch large-scale carbon capture utilization and storage project L10CCS reached Front End Engineering Design (FEED). Neptune Energy and its partners, EBN (Energy Beheer Nederland), Tenaz Energy, and ExxonMobil Netherlands CCS, are executing the project.

The large-scale project will be connected to the Aramis Carbon Capture Storage project. The project partners have successfully progressed the project from its concept select phase to the FEED phase.

The annual storage capacity of L10CCS is 5 million metric tons of CO2, which is equivalent to one-third of the total CO2 emissions produced by domestic Dutch vehicles in a single year. All partners have agreed to a FEED Cooperation Agreement, and Neptune has given Petrofac the Facilities FEED contract, which started operations a month ago.

The technical FEED scopes are anticipated to be completed in the second half of 2024. Furthermore, the FID (Final Investment Decision) will be made by 2025. The project timeline is fully aligned with the Aramis project timeline. The L10CCS project will be integrated with the Aramis project and will be operational from day one.

The Aramis CCS Project

The Aramis CCS project is a large-scale project aiming to significantly contribute to reducing CO2 emissions for hard-to-abate industries in the Netherlands.

The project aims to capture CO2 emissions from industrial facilities and transport them for safe and permanent storage in depleted offshore gas fields under the North Sea. The project is a collaboration between four main partners: Shell, TotalEnergies, Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), and Gasunie.

Aramis has the potential to be one of the largest CO2 capture and storage projects in Europe, contributing significantly to the Netherlands' and Europe's climate goals. Aramis is pioneering new technologies for CO2 capture and storage that can be replicated and scaled up in other countries.
