BEEAH, Chinook Hydrogen, and Air Water Gas Solutions signed a JDA (Joint Development Agreement) to develop the world's first commercial-scale waste-to-green hydrogen plant in the UAE.
Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of Beeah Group; Dr. Rifat Chalabi, CEO and Co-Founder of Chinook Hydrogen; and Ishmael Chalabi, President and CEO of Air Water Gas Solutions, signed the agreement at the UAE Pavilion during the COP28 summit.
The JDA will build on the significant advancements made by the hydrogen-from-waste demonstration plant. This plant has achieved breakthroughs by achieving a carbon-negative alternative to making green hydrogen from waste.
The demonstration unit converts a range of organic waste materials, including MSW (municipal solid waste), non-recyclable plastics, and wood waste, into super-green hydrogen. This hydrogen is then connected to a Toyota fuel cell unit, which produces power using the hydrogen generated.
Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO of BEEAH, said, “We believe achieving zero-waste landfills goes hand-in-hand with achieving net-zero emissions.” He also added that with the launch of this waste-to-hydrogen demonstration plant, they have achieved a solution that can address the challenges of waste and carbon emissions.
Additionally, in May 2022, Beeah commenced operations at the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy Plant. It was a joint venture with Masdar, a prominent player in the global renewable energy industry. This facility not only increased landfill waste diversion to an unprecedented 90% but also eliminated 450,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.
The demonstration facility makes use of Chinook Green Hydrogen's RODECS pyrolysis technology, which has been around for 23 years and has 18 gasification units installed all over the globe.
BEEAH Group is a leading integrated environmental and waste management company based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Founded in 2007, the company has become a major player in the region, providing a wide range of services that promote sustainability and contribute to a cleaner future.
Chinook Sciences is an industrial technology company focused on developing solutions for the environmental, renewable energy, industrial gas, and metal recycling sectors. One of their key areas of focus is the production of green hydrogen from a variety of waste materials.
Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources like solar or wind power, making it a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Chinook's patented RODECS technology uses a thermal process to convert waste materials like plastic, wood, and municipal solid waste (MSW) into hydrogen-rich syngas. This syngas is then purified to produce green hydrogen.
Air Water Inc. is a Japanese multinational company established in 2000 through the consolidation of three companies: Hoxan Corporation, Daido Sanso Co., Ltd., and Kyodo Oxygen Co., Ltd. It has since become a leading player in the air, water, and gas industries, offering a diverse range of products and services across various sectors.
