The Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port has selected France-based renewable energy solutions provider Lhyfe to establish a green hydrogen production and distribution facility in Montoir-de-Bretagne, France. The Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port initiated this call for proposals on November 21, 2022.
Lhyfe will develop an industrial unit with a production capacity of 85 metric tons per day of green hydrogen. The site will feature an installed electrolysis capacity of 210 MW, with operations expected to commence by 2028.
Lhyfe produces green hydrogen through the electrolysis of water at production units powered by renewable resources. The company's initial green hydrogen site has been operational since the latter half of 2021, and an additional seven green hydrogen production facilities are currently under construction across Europe (in France, Germany, and Sweden).
Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port aims to provide a solution to promote green hydrogen. The project will play a crucial role in decarbonizing the industrial port and its logistics. It is in line with the action plan for creating a "Low Carbon Industrial Zone" (ZIBaC), which has the support of the AILE (Association des Industriels Loire Estuaire), Saint-Nazaire Agglomération, the Estuaire and Sillon areas, and the Pays de la Loire Region.
Lhyfe is a French company that develops and supplies renewable hydrogen solutions for transportation and industrial applications. The company's technology is based on its proprietary electrolysis process, which uses renewable electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Lhyfe has developed a portfolio of hydrogen production projects, both onshore and offshore, and is targeting a production capacity of 3 GW by 2030.
Lhyfe's green hydrogen projects are located across Europe, with a focus on France, Germany, and Spain. The company's first industrial-scale green hydrogen plant was inaugurated in Bouin, France, in 2021. Lhyfe is also developing a number of offshore hydrogen production projects. The company's Sealhyfe pilot project, which is located off the coast of Nantes, France, was successfully deployed in 2023.
