In a major push for clean energy, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and the Maharashtra government have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth a staggering USD 9 billion (approximately INR 80,000 crores). This ambitious pact aims to transform Maharashtra into a green hydrogen hub, propelling India's transition to a sustainable future.

Up to 1 million metric tons of green hydrogen and its derivatives, like green ammonia and methanol, will be produced annually. This clean fuel can power various industries, from transportation to fertilizer, significantly reducing the carbon footprint.

The MoU also entails setting up 5 GW of renewable energy projects, both with and without storage solutions. This will address the growing demand for clean electricity and stabilize the grid, especially with the integration of intermittent renewable sources.
