John Cockerill Plans to Boost Houston's H2hub Initiative by Opening a 1 GW Electrolyser Factory

John Cockerill a Belgium-based electrolyzer manufacturer has announced its entry into the US  by acquiring a site for an electrolyser factory which is expected to produce 1 GW per year. The facility is expected to create 200 jobs. Houston is expected to receive around USD 1.2 billion from federal funding boosting Houston’s position as a Hydrogen Hub.

 

John Cockerill Hydrogen will serve the North American market from Houston and provide a domestic supply chain, local customer support, and green hydrogen production equipment for use in energy, industrial transportation, and mobility uses. The company selected this site due to its proximity to transport routes, including rail, roads, and barges. Additionally, Houston secured its place as one of the seven regional hubs for the Department of Energy’s USD 7 billion project.

 

John Cockerill plans to have  8 GW manufacturing capacity in place by 2025 with two 1 GW factories already operating in China. Additionally, The electrolyzer manufacturer is constructing a 1GW electrolyzer stack plant in France, with the units assembled in Belgium. The company also announced that it will build a 1 GW facility in UAE and a 2 GW facility in India.
