JSW Energy to Develop India’s Largest Commercial Scale Green Hydrogen Project

JSW Energy, one of the top 7 renewable energy companies in India, plans to develop India's largest commercial-scale green hydrogen project. The project, which is the first of its kind in India to produce green steel, marks JSW Energy's foray into the burgeoning field of green hydrogen production. 

Furthermore, JSW Energy has signed a seven-year green hydrogen supply agreement with JSW Steel for 3,800 metric tons per year, along with associated green oxygen. This collaboration is set to bolster the supply chain for green hydrogen and contribute to the creation of a green steel industry in India. Additionally, the company has been allotted a capacity of 6,800 TPA under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program by Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI).

The company's vision extends beyond the immediate project, with plans to supply an additional 85,000 to 90,000 TPA of green hydrogen and 720,000 TPA of green oxygen to JSW Steel by 2030. This memorandum of understanding (MoU) underscores the long-term commitment of both companies to sustainability and clean energy. Apart from this, JSW Energy has started constructing a battery storage project in India.

Green hydrogen, produced through water electrolysis using renewable energy, is considered a clean fuel as it emits no carbon dioxide during combustion. The company has initiated construction activities for this project, which is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions and advancing industrial decarbonization.
