ATGL (Adani Total Gas Limited) started a green hydrogen blending project that will supply natural gas to over 4,000 residential and commercial customers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The project will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 4%. According to a press release, the project is expected to be commissioned by 2024.
After successfully completing the pilot, green hydrogen-blended fuel will be supplied stepwise to larger parts of the city and other license areas of AGTL. Suresh P. Manglani, CEO of Adani Total Gas, stated that the group is committed to reducing overall carbon emissions by investing in innovative projects.
ATGL stated that it hopes to form a partnership with regulatory authorities and other stakeholders, including those involved in the pilot program, in order to develop an ecosystem and share its firsthand knowledge regarding the blending of hydrogen into city gas distribution in India.
ATGL's green hydrogen blending pilot project is a pioneering initiative in India, demonstrating the feasibility of integrating green hydrogen into the existing energy infrastructure. It sets a precedent for other gas distribution companies to explore similar blending projects, accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen.
Green hydrogen blending refers to the process of combining green hydrogen with natural gas in the existing natural gas infrastructure. Green hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power. This process results in hydrogen production without emitting carbon dioxide.Blending green hydrogen with natural gas is seen as a transitional step in the shift towards a low-carbon energy system.Read this article to learn more about Green hydrogen.
