Fécamp Offshore Wind Farm in France is Now Fully Operational

France’s first offshore wind farm is now fully operational. Fécamp Offshore Wind Farm is located about 13–14 km from the coast of France. Enbridge, EDF Renewables, CPP Investments, and Skyborn Renewables were responsible for developing the 497 MW Fécamp Offshore Wind Farm. Furthermore, the total estimated value of the project is around USD 2 billion.

 

 

This offshore wind project in France has 71 Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy 7 MW turbines. The project will generate electricity equivalent to the power needs of more than 416,000 homes. Enbridge has a 35% ownership stake in the Fécamp Offshore Wind Project. For the past three years, the Fécamp Offshore Wind Farm has relied on a network of regional infrastructures and skills to help build the project.

This included the construction of the 71 gravity-based foundations and the production of the wind turbine blades, nacelles, and generators in Le Havre, as well as the pre-assembly of components in Cherbourg. In all, the project involved about 3,000 jobs in the Normandy region.

The Fécamp offshore wind farm is the first offshore wind farm under construction in Normandy and the third under construction in France. It comprises 71 offshore wind turbines with a total power of around 497 megawatts. The wind turbines will be located between 13 and 24 km off the coast of Fécamp, over a total area of ​​60 square kilometers. The influence on the seabed represents less than 1% of this surface.

 

The planned production of the park will make it possible to cover the equivalent of the domestic electricity consumption of more than 770,000 people, or more than 60% of the inhabitants of Seine-Maritime.
