In a significant boost to India's clean energy ambitions, leading renewable and hydroelectric energy firms in Uttar Pradesh have proposed plans to develop eight projects worth USD 8 billion (INR 67,000 crore).
The projects, with a total capacity of 13,250 MW, will be developed by ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amunra Infratech and Agritech, Avaada Water Battery, Torrent Power Greenko Group, and JSW Neo Energy. Six projects will be developed in Sonbhadra and one each in Chandauli and Mirzapur districts.
The highlight of the initiative is a massive 4,150 MW pumped storage hydropower project by Torrent Power in Sonbhadra. This project, carrying an investment of USD 3 billion (INR 24,200 crore), is expected to be a game-changer for the region. Greenko Group's 3,660 MW project in Sonbhadra, valued at over USD 2 billion (INR 17,000 crore), also holds significant promise for transforming the economically disadvantaged Obra Block.
The launch of these projects is anticipated during the upcoming Groundbreaking Ceremony (GBC) 4.0 in Lucknow on February 19th, alongside more than 14,000 other projects worth a combined INR 10 trillion. This event underscores the state government's commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.
