STT GDC to Invest $3.2 Billion to Add 550 MW Data Center Capacity in India

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), one of the largest data center-providing companies in India, announced a significant investment of USD 3.2 billion (INR 26,000 crores) to expand its data center capacity in India by a substantial 550 MW. This investment will nearly triple the company’s IT load capacity to meet the demands of India’s thriving digital economy over the next 5–6 years.

The announcement was made on 5 September 2024 during a business roundtable with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted by the Singapore Business Federation.

The surge in data consumption, cloud computing, digital transformation, and growing adoption of AI applications drives this demand. The investment further solidifies the company’s market leadership in India, where STT GDC already holds a market share of about 28% of the revenue.

STT GDC India is majority-owned by STT GDC in partnership with Tata Communications Ltd., which holds a minority stake. The company’s portfolio consists of 28 data centers in 10 cities throughout India.

STT GDC has a total combined capacity of over 318 MW of IT load in India, with a well-diversified portfolio of about 1,000 enterprise customers, including many Fortune 500 companies.

In addition, STT GDC unveiled its plans to invest around USD 229 million in expanding its operational capacity in Tamil Nadu. The company boasts nearly 45 MW of operational capacity in Chennai. Additionally, STT GDC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Tamil Nadu during the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 2024.
