Ørsted announced the completion of the Helena Energy Center, a 518 MW combined wind and solar project located in Bee County, South Texas, USA. The wind and solar centers are fully operational and will generate enough renewable energy to power over 110,000 homes in Texas. Furthermore, Ørsted has invested around USD 1.8 billion for the project.
To celebrate project completion, Ørsted hosted a gathering attended by partners, landowners, community members, and local and state elected officials at Helena’s facility, which comprises 66 wind turbines and over 600,000 solar panels.
The Helena Energy Center comprises the 268 MW wind farm Helena Wind and the 250 MW AC solar farm Sparta Solar and has secured contracts with multiple corporate off-takers. The project will contribute to the North American renewable energy market. David Hardy, Executive Vice President and CEO of Region Americas at Ørsted, said, “Helena Energy Center is unique in that it’s Ørsted’s first co-located wind and solar project and the largest renewable energy project in our global onshore portfolio.”
Helana Energy Center, Located in Bee County, Texas, has a capacity of over 518 MW. Ørsted has invested over USD 1.8 billion in five wind energy projects in operation and one solar energy project under construction across Texas. The Helena Energy Center, comprised of a co-located wind farm and solar center, represents a nearly half-billion-dollar investment in Bee County and will generate tens of millions in tax revenue that will enhance County and School services without raising taxes.
