Nexperia to Sell UK Semiconductor Wafer Plant to Vishay Technology for $177 Million

Nexperia will sell its Neptune 6 wafer Fab plant to Vishay Technology due to pressure from the UK government. The company will sell its wafer fab plant to Siliconix, a subsidiary of semiconductor manufacturing company Vishay Technology, for USD 177 million. The sale is expected to be completed next year which will generate a revenue of about USD 53 million, the firm noted. Nexperia is owned by China’s biggest smartphone assembler Wingtech Technology

Nexperia bought Neptune 6 from the parent firm Newport wafer fab plant for around USD 74 million in 2021. The further investment plans were cut short by the unexpected and wrongful divestment order made by the UK government in November 2022. Neptune 6 had  USD 143 million in total assets and USD 92 million in total liabilities.

In a press release, Nexperia stated that the transaction is currently under the UK government's review. The country manager Toni Versluijs stated that the site needs clarity about its future to avoid further losses. He also added that Vishay Technology has a solid customer base for fab capabilities.
