AirTrunk Acquires India's Lumina CloudInfra to Add 600 MW Pipeline.
AirTrunk, the Asia Pacific and Middle East hyperscale data center platform backed by Blackstone (investment firm) and CPPIB (global investment management organization), has announced the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, a developer of large-scale data centers with an established footprint across India.
The deal represents AirTrunk's first entry into the Indian market and adds approximately 600 MW of planned capacity, which the company says represents up to USD 5 billion of future development potential.
A Strategic Entry into India's Expanding Digital Infrastructure Market
The acquisition gives AirTrunk immediate access to Lumina's development pipeline, existing contracts and customer relationships, and operating capabilities across three Tier 1 Indian markets: Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
The company described the transaction as a significant milestone in its broader Asia Pacific strategy, citing India's rapid trajectory as one of the world's fastest-growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure.
National installed data center capacity in India is set to grow from roughly 1.5 GW in 2025 to around 10 GW by 2030, according to a 2026 Deloitte report cited by AirTrunk.
That growth is being driven by widespread cloud adoption, 5G expansion, tightening data sovereignty regulations, and the country's position as home to the world's largest mobile user base.
India's government has also backed a major initiative to build sovereign AI capability through its IndiaAI Mission, a program AirTrunk highlighted as contributing to unprecedented nationwide demand for hyperscale and AI-ready data centers.
What the Deal Brings to AirTrunk's Portfolio
Following the acquisition, AirTrunk will scale to more than 3 GW of operating and planned capacity across 20 campuses in six operating regions: Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India. The company said the addition of India as a sixth operating region reinforces its position as a leading global APAC hyperscale platform.
The transaction is structured to integrate Lumina's local development and operational capabilities with AirTrunk's global supply chain, design, construction, and technology platforms.
AirTrunk said the combined entity is positioned to deliver large-scale, high-density, AI-ready campuses at the speed required by cloud and AI customers expanding across the region.
The platform will continue to be supported by long-term capital from Blackstone and CPPIB. Robin Khuda, Founder and CEO of AirTrunk, said India is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure worldwide, and that acquiring Lumina CloudInfra positions the company to deliver the scale, speed, and performance its customers need as they expand across the APAC region.

Lumina's Position in India's Data Center Sector
Lumina CloudInfra was described in the announcement as a scaled and established data center platform in India, with a clear focus on AI-ready, energy-efficient infrastructure.
The company has operated across Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad, and brings what AirTrunk characterized as deep execution capability and a proven development pipeline.
Sujeet Deshpande, Co-Founder and CEO of Lumina CloudInfra, said his team is entering a new chapter as a scaled operator with strong local capabilities, deep expertise, and a proven delivery track record.
Deshpande said the combination of Lumina's local strength with AirTrunk's global platforms in design, construction, operations, safety, quality, and technology, alongside access to AirTrunk's global customer network and capital, would create greater consistency, scale, and opportunity for people, customers, and partners.
Blackstone's Continued Commitment to Data Center Investment
The deal also marks an expansion of Blackstone's data center holdings in the Asia Pacific region. Peng Wei Tan, Senior Managing Director of Real Estate at Blackstone, described the transaction as a meaningful expansion of the firm's data center portfolio and said it reinforces what he called one of Blackstone's highest conviction investment themes: digital infrastructure.
Tan said Blackstone is the world's largest investor in data centers and, through AirTrunk, holds the leading platform in the Asia Pacific. He said the firm's scale and deep expertise position it to meet rising demand for high-quality digital infrastructure across the region's fastest-growing economies.
Blackstone's continued backing, alongside CPPIB, provides the long-term capital support that AirTrunk said will underpin the combined platform's ability to execute on its expanded development pipeline in India and across its existing APAC footprint.
Accelerating AI-Ready Infrastructure Across the Region
AirTrunk framed the acquisition as a direct response to the scale and pace of AI-driven infrastructure demand across the Asia Pacific. By combining its relationships with the world's largest cloud and AI customers with Lumina's market leadership in India, AirTrunk said the integrated platform is uniquely positioned to accelerate the delivery of next-generation digital infrastructure across the region.
India's ambition to become a global AI powerhouse, supported by the IndiaAI Mission initiative, was identified as a key driver of the deal's strategic rationale. AirTrunk said this government-backed push, combined with surging commercial demand, is creating conditions for large-scale data center development at a pace and magnitude that few other markets can match.
