Delska, one of the leading data center operators in the Baltic region, has officially launched EU North Riga LV DC1, a 10 megawatt facility in Riga designed for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.

The launch ceremony drew more than 400 attendees, including government officials, foreign ambassadors, business leaders, and industry experts, signaling the significance the Latvian government and regional business community are placing on advanced digital infrastructure.

A Facility Built for Scale and Resilience

The new data center spans 7,100 square meters and has been constructed as a modular facility, enabling expansion up to 30 MW of total capacity as demand grows.

The site supports rack densities of up to 250 kilowatts per rack, a specification that positions it for the intensive computational workloads associated with AI training and high-performance computing environments. The facility meets the Tier III standard, which carries an uptime guarantee of 99.982 percent.

Delska is targeting a power usage effectiveness rating below 1.3, a metric that measures the energy efficiency of data center operations.

To meet its sustainability objectives, the facility draws power from renewable energy sources across Northern Europe, including wind, solar, and hydroelectric generation. Even the backup generators are designed with sustainability in mind, running on Neste MY renewable diesel rather than conventional fossil fuels.

The facility has already received external recognition for its construction quality, earning first place in the Production Facility and Industrial Building category at the Latvian Construction Annual Award.

Government Officials Highlight National Significance

The launch ceremony featured remarks from the highest levels of Latvia's government, with both the Speaker of the Parliament and the Prime Minister attending in person and delivering speeches.

Daiga Mierina, Speaker of the Parliament of Latvia, noted that she had attended the topping-out ceremony of the project two years earlier, framing the official launch as a continuation of that journey.

"Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in Latvia's IT sector. I am confident that EU North Riga LV DC1 will become a significant milestone in Latvia's digital development, proving our ability not only to follow global trends but also to actively shape them," Mierina said.

Prime Minister Evika Silina described the opening as evidence of the country's economic maturity.

"The opening of the Delska data center is a strong signal of Latvia's economic maturity and its ability to attract secure, high-added-value investments. It demonstrates that Latvia is a stable and reliable location for future-oriented projects. Today, digital infrastructure forms the foundation of both economic resilience and national security," Silina stated.

The Prime Minister also pointed to the project as an example of combining technological development with sustainability commitments.

Addressing European Capacity Constraints

The project is being positioned in part as a response to capacity shortages that have emerged in major European data center hubs.

As demand for digital infrastructure continues to outpace available supply in established markets, businesses have begun seeking alternatives in regions where space, power, and connectivity are accessible.

Delska describes the Riga facility as a step toward establishing the Baltics as a competitive and sustainable digital infrastructure hub within Northern Europe.

The data center is already moving toward serving its first clients, with infrastructure preparations underway. The launch event attracted what Delska described as significant regional and international interest from both current and potential customers.

Industry Expertise on Display

Following the official opening ceremony, Delska organized a second portion of the event focused on the technology and strategic context surrounding the facility.

Presentations were delivered by international industry figures from Dell Technologies, 11Stream, and Veeam, covering topics that included data centers as national infrastructure, artificial intelligence, sovereign computing, and data portability. Attendees were subsequently given a guided tour of the data center's infrastructure.

The inclusion of sovereign computing as a presentation topic reflects a broader conversation taking place across the European technology sector around data residency, regulatory compliance, and the desire of governments and enterprises to maintain control over sensitive workloads and information within specific jurisdictions.

Delska's Broader Regional Footprint

Delska brings more than 26 years of experience in the data center sector to this project. The company currently operates six data centers across Riga and Vilnius, with a combined capacity of 19 MW.

It also maintains points of presence in Frankfurt and Amsterdam, extending its connectivity into the core of European internet infrastructure. In addition to colocation and data center services, Delska provides a range of IT infrastructure and cloud services to its customer base across the region.

The launch of EU North Riga LV DC1 adds 10 MW to the company's existing footprint and, with the modular design accommodating future growth to 30 MW, represents a significant long-term commitment to the Latvian market and the broader ambition of positioning the Baltic states as a credible location for enterprise and hyperscale digital infrastructure investment.
