Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Power Plant
Berwick Bank offshore wind farm is located in the North Sea, Scotland is the largest upcoming wind farm project in the UK. Having a capacity of 4,100MW the project is fully owned by SSE Renewables. The project expands over 1,680 square kilometers having 307 turbines and powering six million households in Scotland. Commercial operation is expected in the year 2027 with the reduction of 8 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
On July 31, the Scottish Government granted consent for SSE Renewables’ Berwick Bank project, which could become the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The Section 36 approval covers the project’s main offshore wind array in the outer Firth of Forth, off the East Lothian coast.
Berwick Bank Offshore wind power is aligned with the net-zero targets by Scotland and UK governments by 2030. Berwick Bank has already secured grid connections in the UK electricity grid, one in East Lothian and Northumberland. Also, the project is expected to create 4,650 jobs in Scotland and 9,300 in the UK.
Various contractors are involved in the completion of projects, including UTEC for topographical and ground-penetrating radar surveys and RPS led the offshore Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
The front-end engineering design (FEED) is done by the British Geological Survey, along with Cathie. Kent initially contributed to the concept design and was commissioned for the FEED and detailed design of WTG foundations and substructures.

Ossian Offshore Wind Power Plant
The Ossian Offshore offshore wind power project with 3,600 MW capacity upon its completion, is expected to power up to 6 million homes annually. The Ossian offshore wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Marubeni Corporation, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). It is located approximately 84 km off the Angus coast having average water depths of 72m.
It is one of the largest lease areas by Crown Estate Scotland to any bidder in the ScotWind leasing allocation round with 858 Km sq. The offshore project estimated with USD 5400 million project value will reduce carbon emissions by 7.5 million tonnes every year. The project is currently in the permitting phase.
The Offshore Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Ossian Offshore Wind farm array is conducted by Consulting and engineering services provider RPS. HiDef Aerial Surveying is in charge of digital aerial surveys across the Ossian array and Fugro and Ocean Infinity conducted geotechnical investigations in March 2023.
In January 2025, XOCEAN completed a 13-month geophysical survey along the 420 km cable route for the Ossian floating offshore wind farm. Using uncrewed survey vessels, the survey covered depths from the shoreline to over 100 meters. The data will aid in identifying suitable offshore export cable routes for engineering and environmental assessments.
Currently, a month-long benthic survey gathered data from 122 sites along the export cable route for the Ossian floating offshore wind farm. Earlier in May, a two-year wind data collection campaign for the project was also completed.
East Anglia Hub Offshore Wind Complex
East Anglia Hub is the UK's major step towards clean energy, with four developments in the East Anglia area. The project covers the southern area of the North Sea: East Anglia ONE, East Anglia ONE North, East Anglia TWO, and East Anglia THREE with a combined capacity of 3,100 MW. The whole project is estimated to cost USD 6500 million and support the clean energy needs of 2.7 million British homes.
East Anglia ONE
East Anglia ONE is situated 43 km off the Suffolk coast and is developed by ScottishPower Renewables and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group. This offshore wind farm features 102 Siemens Gamesa renewable energy offshore wind turbines, each producing 7 MW, with a total capacity of 714 MW. 84 Km long transmission cables connecting to the national grid ensure the power supply and it has 30+ working years.
East Anglia TWO
East Anglia TWO is the second development in the southern North Sea. The offshore wind farm has an operational capacity of around 900MW and powers approximately 800,000 UK households. This offshore development includes up to 75 wind turbines and consists of four electrical platforms connected by platform link cables to collect electricity.
Currently, Iberdrola is planning to seek a partner to sell a 49% stake in its EUR 5 billion East Anglia Two offshore wind farms. ScottishPower has awarded Siemens Gamesa a turbine supply contract worth over EUR 1 billion for the East Anglia Two offshore wind farm. The deal includes 64 of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-236 DD turbines.
East Anglia THREE
East Anglia THREE is developed by ScottishPower Renewables, with construction commenced in 2022. Further additions are done to increase the capacity to 1,400MW. The project, situated approximately 69 km from the Suffolk coast, includes up to 100 offshore wind turbines, along with one offshore converter station and up to four subsea export cables. Onshore construction began in July 2022, involving an onshore cable route to transport energy to a converter station in Bradford.
East Anglia ONE North wind farm project is located approximately 37.7km from the Suffolk coast, near Lowestoft. The project comprises up to 67 wind turbines covering an area of 208 square kilometres. The offshore development also includes up to four electrical platforms linked by cables for electricity collection, along with inter-array and export cables to transport electricity to shore.
In April 2025, ScottishPower began offshore construction of the East Anglia Three wind farm with the installation of its first monopile foundation (an 83.9-metre, 1,800-tonne structure), the largest ever installed from a jack-up vessel in Europe. A total of 95 monopiles will be installed, each supporting one of Siemens Gamesa’s 14.75 MW turbines.
Masdar and Iberdrola have achieved financial close for the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm, securing EUR 3.6 billion in project financing from 23 banks and the Danish Export Credit Agency (EIFO) which is valued at around EUR 5.2 billion.
MarramWind Floating Wind Farm
The MarramWind project is one of the largest floating offshore wind projects in UK. The collaborative venture between ScottishPower and Shell is located 75 kilometers off the northeast coast of Scotland. This proposed floating wind farm is set to deliver up to 3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy, enough to power more than 3.5 million homes.
Public engagement has been central to the planning of MarramWind, with nearly 300 participants across Aberdeenshire taking part in the project's consultation phase, which concluded in December 2024. The project spans an area of around 860 km and situated approximately 60 kilometers off the coast of Aberdeen with turbines installed at water depths between 64 and 76 meters.
Morven, among the most ambitious projects in the growing wind farm UK sector, has capacity to power approximately 3 million homes. The project includes an offshore wind farm array with turbines, substation platforms, and inter-array cabling entirely within Scottish waters.
The project infrastructure includes the Morven – Hawthorn Pit Grid Connection and the newly identified Branxton Area Grid Connection. These elements require subsea and underground cables as well as a land substation, with ongoing consultation to gather public input.
As one of the most significant UK new wind farms in development, Morven has already completed its initial non-statutory consultation and will continue to engage local communities and authorities as plans progress.
Currently, a public consultation has opened for the proposed grid connection of the Morven Offshore Wind Farm to the national grid at the Hawthorn Pit substation near Seaham. Running from 22 October to 30 November 2025, the consultation invites feedback from local residents and stakeholders on the Morven Hawthorn Pit Grid Connection Project.
Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Power Plant
The Hornsea 3 offshore windfarm, a flagship project by Orsted (previously DONG energy) is set to revolutionise renewable energy in the UK, having five times the capacity of the London Array, commissioned in 2013.
Located approximately 120 km off the Norfolk coast and 160 km off the Yorkshire coast, Hornsea project will cover a vast 696 square kilometre area in the southern North Sea. The project with an estimated cost of USD 9600 million will feature DD offshore wind turbines, each having capacity of 14 MW.
The Hornsea project is expected to generate 2900 MW of clean energy and is estimated to power over 3.3 million homes across the UK. Hornsea 3 deployed innovative HVDC technology which is connected with four HVDC converter stations facilitating seamless power transmission between the wind turbines and the national grid.
The offshore wind development of the project started with the submission of a Development Consent Order (DCO) application in May 2018. The project received official consent from the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy in December 2020. The permission was granted and final investment was made by Orsted for the largest offshore wind farm in December 2023.
The project is a collaboration with industry leaders like Jan De Nul Group, Havfram Wind, Haizea Wind Group, SeAH Wind, Hitachi Energy, Aibel, NKT, VolkerWessels, Hellenic Cables, and Prysmian Group. They will contribute to various aspects of the project, from cable installation to turbine fabrication.
In October 2025, Aibel completed the second offshore converter station topside for Ørsted’s 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project at its yard in Thailand. The substation, named Hornsea 3 Link 2, has now begun its journey to Europe. Under a 2022 contract with Ørsted, Aibel and Hitachi Energy are delivering two HVDC offshore converter stations, with Aibel handling engineering, procurement, construction, and installation, based on Hitachi Energy’s modular HVDC system.
Currently, Ørsted is reportedly in discussions with US-based private equity firm Apollo to sell a stake in its 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project in the UK, according to media reports.
