Project Overview

The Delhi Metro Phase V project, developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), was approved in December 2025. As part of Phase V, it will add three new corridors, namely:

• R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha

• Aerocity to IGD Airport T-1

• Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj

Upon completion (expected by late 2028), the railway line will be 16.076 km long, further improving connectivity within Delhi, the national capital. It provides easy access to Kartavya Bhawans, offering doorstep connectivity to office goers and visitors in this area. It benefits nearly 60,000 office goers and 2 lakh visitors daily.

The railway line would also provide environmental benefits by reducing pollution and fossil fuel use and improving the quality of life. It will further boost the economy by extending the Delhi Metro network into Central Delhi and to the Domestic Airport.

Project Background

The Delhi Metro is the largest and busiest metro network in India and one of the largest in the world. It involves nine operational lines with several extension projects underway.

Currently, 12 Metro lines, totaling nearly 395 km and 289 stations, are operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in Delhi and NCR.

Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 was planned to ensure last-mile connectivity to various localities in the National Capital Region (NCR).

As Delhi grows, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has planned Delhi Metro Phase V to boost connectivity within the city. It met the need for infrastructure and public transport.

As the next stage in expansion, Phase V will focus on addressing the demands driven by population growth, economic activity, and seamless connectivity in underserved or high-traffic areas.

Delhi Metro Phase V Latest News & Status

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the project on 24th December, 2025. It will add three new corridors, as part of the Delhi Metro Phase V(A).

It comprises 13 new stations over three corridors, taking the total length of Delhi Metro to approximately 400 km within the next three years.

The Union Cabinet approved the three new corridors -

• R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (9.913 km)

• Aerocity to IGD Airport T-1 (2.263 km)

• Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km)

These extension corridors include 13 stations, of which 10 are underground, and three are elevated.

As part of Phase V (A), the R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha section will be an extension of the Botanical Garden-R.K. Ashram Marg corridor. It will connect the Central Vista area, which is currently under redevelopment.

The Aerocity - IGD Airport Terminal 1 and Tughlakabad - Kalindi Kunj sections are an extension of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor and will improve the connectivity of the airport with the southern parts of Delhi, including Tughlakabad, Saket, Kalindi Kunj, etc.

Upon completion, the R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha section will improve connectivity between West, North, Old, and Central Delhi. The remaining two sections will connect South Delhi with the domestic Airport Terminal-1 via Saket, Chattarpur, etc., thereby significantly boosting connectivity within the National Capital.

The total estimated cost for the Delhi Metro Phase V (A) is INR 12014.91 crore  (approximately USD 1.33 billion). It would be received from the Government of India, the Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies.

• Increase total length: Upon completion, a Metro Line with approximately 400 km of total length will better handle peak loads in high-density areas.
