Costa Rica Geothermal Power Plant Industry Analysis

The Rio Caliente project, which is located in the province of Cartago, is being developed by Geot?rmica Rio Caliente, a joint venture between the Costa Rican state-owned electricity company ICE and the Canadian company Alterra Power. The project consists of a 50 MW geothermal power plant and is expected to come online in 2024.
Despite the progress being made on these projects, there are still challenges facing the geothermal power industry in Costa Rica. One major challenge is the lack of infrastructure and financing for geothermal projects. The high upfront costs of exploration and development can be a barrier to entry for smaller companies, and there is a need for more financing options to support the growth of the industry.
