The rise in urbanization and water supply demand have made it necessary to look for ways to get drinking water beyond the conventional freshwater sources. Converting sea water into potable water is one option to ensure water security for the growing population, especially in regions prone to scanty rainfall and arid weather conditions.
This is where seawater desalination plants have a critical role to play. According to our Global desalination market outlook, there are about 22,000 operational sea water desalination plants worldwide facilitating freshwater to over 300 million people. In 2022-23 alone, about 356 new desalinations plants were awarded to desalination companies. Considering this additional capacity, the total global desalination capacity is estimated to be 109.22 million m3/day.
In this blog we will cover the desalination and water treatment companies that are fulfilling the clean water needs through advanced desalination projects worldwide.
